Far Better than Expected!!!

(Warning: This post contains some graphic descriptions and pictures)

This first picture is right before we left to go to the hospital. If you can tell, my face is already swollen (even before the surgery), it has been for a few months! Anyway, we had to be at the hospital at 10:00 am on Wednesday February 4th. We got there and all checked in and waited two and a half hours before it was time for my surgery. I went in at about 12:30 and came out of recovery at about 3:00 or 3:30 (I am not sure because I was a little out of it)! Before they took me back my doctor came and talked to me and he told me that he was going to reset the disks and then he would play with my jaw to see where my bite ended up, if it ended up normal then he wasn't going to need to split my bottom jaw! Well, I was lucky! My bite went back to normal actually better than before so he ended up not having to split my bottom jaw and only had to reset the disks on both sides. He did tell Jon though while I was in recovery that the right side had a bunch of build up surrounding it of scar tissue and such so he had to do a lot of "carving" to get everything! So he said that side was pretty bad! When they took me into the recovery room, they went and told Jon the room I would be staying in and took him to it. They brought me out of recovery and took me to my room, but Jon was no where! I kept asking the nurses where my husband was, and they just kept saying he was in the waiting room and they would go get him. Well, finally half an hour later here comes the nurse with Jon. At the last minute they switched my room number and didn't tell Jon. He had went and bought beautiful flowers and had them sitting on the table in the room and had the video camera ready to record me coming out of it and had the room all set up and perfect for me! He was so mad. But he was so sweet to do all that for me!

This next picture (to the right) was when Jon finally caught up with me about an hour after surgery. You don't have to tell me, I know I look gorgeous!! Especially my hair! That beautiful thing I am wearing is called "The Jaw Bra" I know that you are all jealous and wish you had one of your own!

This picture (below) shows that I was actually feeling okay after! Good enough to smile. Well, okay for the most part. I actually wasn't feeling to much pain afterwards. I remained quite numb actually I am still somewhat numb writing this post, I am not feeling too much pain in my jaw area. My body is feeling very weak! Anyway, I was feeling good for the most part, but do you notice that cute bin I am holding? Well, After the surgery my throat was extremely sore and I was very thirsty after not having ate or drank for almost 18 hours. So I drank two whole mugs of water- you know the mugs the hospital gives you. My nurse came in to give me some of my medication and while she was in there I suddenly got very nauseated. She ran and grabbed this bin for me and I threw up all of the water that I had drank. I thought it wasn't going to stop! So a couple hours later-after I drank another mug of water- she came back in and told me if I didn't use the bathroom within an hour they would have to come do a catheder. She also gave me medication at that time, and I told her that I needed to go to the bathroom (after all, I didn't want a catheder)! She left the room while I went. I was really dizzy and Jon was there. I stood up from going to the bathroom and go extremely nauseated again, and threw up a ton again. She came back in and said during the surgery I would have swallowed a lot of blood and thats why I was throwing up so bad. They just kept giving me and anti-nausea medication every four hours. Later on I had to use the bathroom again and realized I had started my period--- perfect timing--- right!

At that time, Jon had to leave for school. While he was gone the nurses told me I would need to eat so they could give me lortab instead of morphine. Jon was almost back from school by that time, so I just waited for him to get back so he could call and order my food. The only thing I could eat was cream of wheat and one of the creamed soups, because I am on a pureed food diet, so I got cream of potato soup and also a chocolate shake. It was very difficult to eat anything, but the chocolate shake felt so good on my throat. I ended up only having a few bites of the potato soup and all the chocolate shake. I was doing fine. As this picture with Jon and I shows. So a few hours later right before Jon was getting ready to go home for the night the nurse came to give me more medication - a steroid medication. She gave it to me and left. Jon was ready to walk out the door and I threw up again everything I ate. After that there was a nurse shift change. My new nurse came in when it was time for more medication- she gave it to me and was doing something and I got nauseated again. That is when she figured out it was the steroid medication that was making me sick and she hurried and gave me the anti-nausea medication, and I didn't throw up. They didn't give me the steroid medication the rest of my stay and I didn't get sick again, and was able to eat breakfast this morning and keep it down. So I know this post is so long! So, to wrap it up-- like I said I am still not in too much pain-- he said I won't really feel it for three to five days! These next three pictures are right before I left the hospital, and when I got home! These are the graphic ones. There is one of my left side and one of my right side. You can also kind of tell where they shaved my hair up to, they kind of shaved a lot off.
I know this has been the longest post ever, but it is a way to kind of keep a journal entry of it! I am stuck in bed, so Jon just brought the laptop in to me and I decided to blog to give everyone an update. As far as side notes go, I am on a puree diet- only things you can drink for at least a week if not two. I can only open my mouth about 1/4 inch. The doctor said its going to get way worse and tight over the next couple days. I decided to post while I was still feeling okay. I am already starting to feel blah I can't stand for very long because I get really woozy! I also have to say that I am very humbled at the outpouring of help and support. I cannot even express my appreciation to all of you it means the World to me, and has made this process that much easier! I am just so grateful! I also have to say I am soooo thankful for Jon, and that he honors and was able to use the Priesthood to give me a blessing of comfort! I am very thankful for the Priesthood, and also that my dad, Nick, Jay, and Jons dad were there and willing to help also! I also am thankful to Cheryl for just stepping up and taking care of my kids so Jon can make it to school! And also any others who will offer your help in these coming-difficult-weeks! Thank you! And again- sorry for the long post, if you read it all I hope it was entertaining enough and made sense. After all, I am on medication! Also- I forgot to post, when Kaylee came home she gave me pink tulips! It was so sweet of her, and Abbie was freaked out by the jaw bra that she wanted nothing to do with me.
